GEOGRAPHY : Bihar, Uttar Pradesh
ESTABLISHED : November 2019
Incubated in collaboration with Ambe International, India's oldest private recruiting firm, this project aims at developing an ethical, sustainable model for the recruitment of emigrant labour from the Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
India has long been one of the world's most prominent source countries for international labour at various levels of skill. According to the IOM World Migration Report of 2020, India was the world's largest source country, with an estimated 17.5 million emigrants. Although states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are the traditional source states for international migrants, in recent years, northern states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have emerged as popular areas for international labour recruitment. However, this also opens up channels of exploitation drawing prospective migrants into dangerous cycles of irregular mobility. This venture is aimed at implementing an ethical, sustainable recruitment model in a part of the country which is increasingly becoming a hub for international migration.
The project is currently being ideated in collaboration with Ambe International and other field partners in the states, concerned.
